Growing Technology of the 1920's: The Automobile
By: Kirsten Dahlberg

The 1920's have been a time of new ideas and enhanced old ones.  As technology progresses we have noticed that all eyes are on the leaders of this industrial movement, the automobile business.  However, the major question for this industry stays the same. How can they create a more affordable car?  According to statistics, in 1918, only 1 in 13 families owned a car.  One of the leaders of the automobile industry, Henry Ford, faced the same problem.  Ford's car, Model T, was originally set at the price of $825.00.  Model T was Ford's dream of a more affordable automobile for the average citizen.  In an effort to reduce the cost, Ford came up with the idea of using interchangeable parts on an assembly line.  Instead of one worker making a car from start to finish, every employee would be taught to perform an individual task in the process.  By the beginning of the 20's the price had plummeted down to an affordable $310.00.  The Model T was showcased as an affordable and durable car.  And in 1927 Ford impressed us once again with his create of Model A, which has quickly become one of the most popular cars and has stimulated much competition between the makers.
